The 14th Underground Cinema Awards
The 14th edition of the Underground Cinema Films Awards is currently underway. Starting from January 2023 and running through October 2023, Underground Cinema will once again showcase a monthly selection of outstanding independent short films and music videos from talented filmmakers worldwide.
For the past 11 years, our screenings have been held as live events. However, due to the Covid outbreak in 2020, we transitioned our monthly screenings from live to online events. This transition has been incredibly successful, garnering impressive viewership numbers online.
Throughout 2023, our screenings will continue to take place online. We will curate online programs over a span of ten months, with each program being launched online for a two-day period, specifically on Saturdays and Sundays. These programs will be freely accessible to the public during that time.
In early October 2023, following the conclusion of our season, we will unveil the nominees for the 14th Underground Cinema Film Awards. The awards ceremony itself will be a live event held at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, Ireland. These short film awards distinguish themselves as the only ceremony in Ireland that acknowledges every aspect of the art of making short films. Shortly after the nominees are announced a number of online interviews with the nominees prior to the awards. This relaxed and informal interviews will be screened live on the Underground Cinema Website, our Facebook Page, and our YouTube Channel. The Facebook livestream has been particularly popular, as it enables the audience to interact with the filmmakers in real-time through comments.
