Underground Cinema showcases on the big screen some of the newest and most innovative short films from new emerging Irish filmmakers. Commended for our work in the arts by former President McAleese and an Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore (who also presented at the recent Underground Cinema Awards), we are widely recognised for presenting some of the most cutting edge, visionary works that Irish cinema has to offer. We take pride in bringing attention to the Irish filmmaker with the same enthusiasm that is often reserved for international artists.

Underground Cinema’s Program for schools embraces the magic of film, television and digital technologies to educate motivate and inspire young people through the medium of film screenings, workshops and industry led master classes. Cine-literacy helps promote discussion, questioning and thinking skills as well as creativity and imagination. We also provide students with a solid understanding of the many facets of the film industry and the career choices available to them.

We have put together a program for students who may be interested in a career in film production. The program will also benefit those students who have an interest in Irish literature and the arts. The program includes:

  • A selection of short Irish films (including films as Gaelige) that would suit a variety of different age groups.

  • Where possible we will arrange for directors to attend the screening and to answer any questions that students may have on the films screened

  • In some cases we may even be able to screen short films made by local film makers and invite them to the school to discuss their work

  • We give career advice on film production and acting schools in Ireland

  • We can present to individual classes or to the entire school

  • We provide our own equipment: HD projector, Blu-Ray DVD Player, State of the Art Sound System and Giant Screen

  • Generally a program runs for two hours which includes a Q&A session.

You can call me at 086 2280652 to make an appointment with one of our team who will visit your school to discuss our various different programs in more detail. Or alternatively you can email me at karen@underground-cinema.com

Underground Cinema are very conscious of the tight budgets that our secondary schools have to work within, this is why we have made these programs extremely affordable. If after our visit you decide to go ahead with a screening we will discuss with you further the construction of your program for your school
